Sambalos Tapas & Bar: Authentic Spanish Tapas and Craft Cocktails in Winthrop, MA

My partner and I absolutely LOVE this place!!! We first went with a group of our friends back in May and have been hooked ever since. We've now been back 5 times and each time never disappointed. The staff are wonderful and always catch me off guard as they have remembered us every single time, that's incredible! Everyone is very warm, kind and personable. The food and drinks are outstanding. The bartenders are extremely skilled and craft the drinks the exact same way every time. Every time we leave, we dream about the next time we will be back!

Went here for a birthday celebration - girls’ night! As you can see, I didn’t get many pictures of the food/drinks-it was that good! The receipt says it all! We tried a lot & we were just so impressed with everything. To end the night - we had the birthday dessert (pictured) - so good! And-kindly, they gave it to us on the house! Thank you! A new favorite spot for sure!

Authentic and modern restaurant in Winthrop, beautiful and cozy. We sat at the bar to enjoy the Sox game, asked the bartender (William) for food recommendations and his answer was; pick your poison, everything is good! We ordered a variety of starters and it did not disappoint, every single tapa we ordered was mouthwatering. Drinks were innovative and hit the right spot. Upscale service, very knowledgeable and friendly staff, the waiter was great, and the manager on duty was welcoming, she greeted warmly and always had a smile. Perfect spot for a date as place is beautiful, or to enjoy drinks with friends at the bar. Missed on posting some pictures because food started to come out and everything tasted so good, I forgot to snap other tapas we had ordered. Overall, great experience, awesome value, will comeback to order some other items from the menu I didn’t get to order and repeat some others as they were that good.

I had an amazing experience at this cozy tapas restaurant! Every dish was full of bold, authentic flavors — from the perfectly seasoned rib. The atmosphere was warm and vibrant, perfect for sharing small plates with friends. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, A must-visit spot for anyone who loves Spanish cuisine and a lively dining vibe!

Stopped by Sambalos around 4 PM for a late lunch. Our server Laura was fantastic and really made the experience enjoyable. The sweet plantain was delicious and definitely a highlight. We ordered the tuna tartare but it tasted off, so we sent it back. They removed it from the bill without any hassle, which we appreciated. The birria was absolutely delicious and highly recommend it. The sauce it came with was fantastic and really elevated the dish. The birria and the plantain were easily the stars of the meal. The lavender cocktail was also excellent and worth ordering. Laura's service was top notch. Despite the miss with the tartare, the birria alone makes this place worth visiting.

Great first experience at Sambalos. The atmosphere has great energy with good music and a cool bar at the entrance. The cocktails were extremely good, especially the Golden Amber. The menu is full of flavor with thoughtful presentation. We ordered octopus, toston de carnitas, cauliflower, and carne asada. The toston de carnitas and carne asada are a must order! One comment to the kitchen is that while the meats had great char to them, the carne and octopus came overcooked. The flavor was still great and of course, easy to correct as the restaurant continues to open and gain traction. I am very happy about having Sambalos in Winthrop. With the same owners as Bellinos next door, it's nice to have some options and locals spots for a great cocktail and food.

Beautiful restaurant with a great cocktail list. They do an excellent take on calamari with jalapeños. Coconut shrimp is a must have and the ceviche was fresh and delightful. Sat at the bar and had excellent service. Excited to come back and try the burger!

Stumbled on this place while looking for a quick bite and a cocktail. Both were delicious, service at the bar was great and atmosphere was spirited. Mago (front) and Sambalo’s Margarita’s were outstanding! Tuna Tartare and Toston de Carnitas were so good. We preferred the tartare with the chips from the queso. Not pictured was the queso with chorizo - so good, but I’d ask for the chorizo on the side the next time as you lose about half the cheese to it. A great find and we will definitely be back.
